Visible Data is Valuable Data

Over the past few weeks I’ve been working with Luke Pentith at Whitby Distillery Limited building a dashboard which gives their team an instant overview of current stock levels across their range of premium spirits.

Like many leading distilleries and breweries, Luke and the team use BrewMan by Premier Systems to help manage their day to day operations. The stock level dashboard I’ve built connects to the Brewman API, pulling out key information and presenting it in a user-friendly manner on large screens within their manufacturing space.

As well as taking trade and wholesale orders which are processed directly within Brewman, Whitby Distillery take orders through their own Shopify website. This is also connected to Brewman so that stock levels across the range remain accurate, regardless of the origin of the order.

Luke and the team can set stock alert and re-order levels, which are used by the dashboard to determine the colours on the grid. The actual stock figures are also displayed. The dashboard refreshes every few minutes, ensuring it’s always up to date.

By making the data visible to the whole team we’ve made it easier for everyone to see what’s going on. Being able to see which products need manufacturing or re-stocking reduces the risk of prioritising the wrong products, ensuring Whitby Distillery is always ready to respond to customer demands.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the project:

It’s been a pleasure collaborating with Jack Barber on our new stock dashboard! After a quick discussion, Jack worked his magic and had a functional model up and running within just a couple of days. With this dashboard, our production team now has real-time visibility of all SKU stocks, displayed on a large screen in the distillery. This allows them to prioritise production efficiently, ensure timely replenishment, and maintain seamless stock availability.

Soon we’ll be integrating distillate, cask, and diluted liquid stocks, giving us end-to-end visibility of our inventory. A big step forward in improving efficiency and visual management at the distillery!
