Dylan Parry is a fully qualified medical herbalist and member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists — the UK's oldest and most respected professional body for herbal medicine practitioners. Through Edava Botanics, based in Scarborough, Dylan offers one-to-one consultations — via Zoom or in person — alongside a curated range of high-quality herbal infusions and teas available to buy online. What she needed was a website that reflected that expertise, sold her work convincingly, and could actually be managed without a background in web development. Her self-built Wix site was doing none of these things reliably.

A website that earns trust before a word is read. Working with a medical herbalist presents a particular design challenge: the website needs to feel authoritative and professional — this is someone's health, after all — while remaining warm, approachable, and genuinely inviting. I worked closely with Dylan's existing logo and brand graphics to develop a visual language that honours the identity she'd already established, building outwards from those foundations rather than starting from scratch. The result is a site that does justice to the depth of Dylan's training and makes it easy for potential clients to understand what she offers and take the next step.

I developed a fully custom WordPress theme for Edava Botanics, built around Advanced Custom Fields to give Dylan genuine flexibility in managing her own content without touching code. Rather than adapting an off-the-shelf theme and fighting against decisions made for a generic use case, building from scratch meant every element of the site was designed around how Edava Botanics actually works — not how a template assumed it might. The result is fast, clean, and straightforward to keep up to date.

Consultations, made easy. Booking a consultation with Dylan — whether via Zoom or in person in Scarborough — is handled through a Calendly integration built directly into the site. Rather than a back-and-forth of emails trying to find a mutually convenient time, potential clients can see Dylan's real availability and book immediately. It's a small thing that makes a meaningful difference to conversion: the easier it is to take the next step, the more people do.

WooCommerce, done properly. Alongside her consultations, Dylan sells a range of herbal infusions and teas through the site — carefully sourced products that complement her clinical practice. I integrated WooCommerce into the custom theme, ensuring the shopping experience feels consistent with the rest of the site rather than bolted on as an afterthought — a common problem when ecommerce is added to a template-based build. The transition from the Wix store to a properly integrated WooCommerce setup means Dylan has full control over her product range, pricing, and inventory without the limitations of a DIY platform.

SEO built in from day one. Replacing a Wix site with a custom WordPress build creates an immediate opportunity to establish proper SEO foundations — something that's difficult to do well within the constraints of a DIY platform.
