I'm a website designer with decades of experience building high-quality, fast and user-friendly websites. I'm based in Whitby but work with organisations across the UK — from simple brochure sites to complex ecommerce solutions and bespoke web applications.

Every website I build is optimised for search engines, and I offer hosting and ongoing support too, giving you complete peace of mind.

Understanding Your Requirements

The first step in any successful project is understanding your requirements. I see every website as the start of a long-term partnership, so I take time to understand your organisation's aims and develop solutions that support them.

Over the years I've worked with organisations of all kinds, including small businesses, SMEs, charities and community organisations, schools and local government bodies.

Wireframes

Wireframes are a great way to get a feel for how your content might work as distinct pages. Here's an example from a recent project — note that the wireframes are built from individual blocks, which can be arranged in any combination to create flexible page layouts:

Creative Design — Bringing Your Website to Life

Once we've established your aims, I'll develop a creative design for your website. If you have existing logos, graphics or preferred colours, I'll incorporate them; if not, I'll draw on my experience to recommend a design direction and create something engaging from scratch. For Choice Mortgages UK Ltd, for example, I produced a simple style guide defining the key elements of their visual identity:

I don't normally design every page individually. A website is a living document — it grows and changes over time — so I design a series of flexible layout blocks that can be assembled in any order, creating varied pages with a consistent style. Here's how the wireframes and style guide came together in the initial Choice Mortgages designs:

More often than not, the design ideas hit the mark first time. Even so, I love involving clients in the process and welcome feedback throughout.

Designed for Speed and Ease of Use

Every website I build is designed for speed. Slow websites are frustrating for visitors — and speed is an important search ranking factor too.

I also design with both the visitor and the owner in mind. For visitors, my priority is helping them find what they need as quickly as possible. For owners, it's a site that's easy to keep up to date. I provide full training and plenty of support, so you can manage your content with confidence.

Copywriting, Photography & Graphic Design

Alongside the design and build, I can provide additional creative services including copywriting, photography, videography and graphic design. And if a project calls for something I can't produce in-house, I'll draw on my network of trusted creative contacts. Many of my clients appreciate having one point of contact who can handle all kinds of creative work.

Website Hosting & Ongoing Support

Every website needs reliable hosting. If you already have a preferred provider, that's fine — but for ultimate peace of mind, I offer rock-solid hosting through my hosting partner, Guru.

My hosting platform is fully managed: it's proactively monitored, and technicians are available 24/7 to respond to any problems (which are few and far between). It's affordable too, offering excellent value compared with similar solutions.

Ecommerce Website Development

I love developing ecommerce websites, and I'm equally happy working with Shopify or WooCommerce — both offer excellent tools for selling online. I can handle everything from design and build to adding products and setting up payment processing, then show you everything you need to know to manage your shop and process orders.

Ecommerce sites can also connect with platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Google Shopping, expanding your reach and making it easier for people to find and buy what you sell. Ecommerce success depends on visibility and trust, and I put a lot of work into optimising the shops I build for both.

Search Engine Optimisation

Every website I build is optimised for search engines from day one — but SEO isn't a one-time task. Effective SEO takes time and covers three areas, sometimes called the SEO Triangle:

  • Content — the text and images on your website.
  • Technical — your site's speed, usability and various behind-the-scenes details.
  • Links — internal links and inbound links (backlinks).

I've helped many businesses improve their search rankings, resulting in more organic traffic, greater brand awareness and increased revenue.

Monitoring & Analytics

I can set up GDPR-compliant analytics for your website, with a dashboard showing your visitor statistics: total visitors over time, average time on site, your most popular pages, and the devices and browsers people use. By paying attention to these reports, we can improve user journeys and help you achieve your organisation's aims.

Here for the Long Term

Every website I design is the start of a lasting relationship. With ongoing support and maintenance included, you can get on with running your organisation while I take care of the technology behind the scenes.

Common questions

Good to know.

How long does it take to build a website?

Most sites take three to six weeks, depending on size and how quickly you can get me your text content, photos, product information and so on. I’ll give you a realistic timeline up front.

Will I be able to update it myself?

Yes — I build sites that are easy to edit and show you how. Or if you’d rather not, just email me and I’ll sort it.

Do you really do all the work yourself?

Every bit. No outsourcing, no account managers — you deal with me from first chat to launch and beyond. I am using some AI tools to streamline my workflow, feel free to ask me about this.

What happens after launch?

I keep your site hosted, secure and backed up, and I’m one email away for changes or questions whenever they come up.

Ready for a website that works as hard as you do?

Drop me a line and you’ll get a friendly, jargon-free reply from me — usually the same day.
