Social media has become a primary method of communication for organisations of all kinds. It's an ongoing conversation between you and your audience — and for most companies, it's all about being visible and memorable.

From developing your strategy to designing graphics and producing videos, I can support your organisation's social media communication. Many small businesses simply don't have the time to produce and publish content consistently. That's where I can help.

Social Media Post Types

The most effective content varies from platform to platform, but it breaks down into a few main types:

Short-form text. Platforms like X (Twitter) and Facebook were built around short text posts. Although character limits have loosened over the years, short posts are generally preferable on any platform — audience attention is hard to capture and even harder to keep.

Longer articles. On platforms like LinkedIn, longer articles can work well, delivering specialist knowledge, useful advice or a detailed account of an event.

Photos. As the saying goes, a picture paints a thousand words. Almost every social platform has become a visual one, and posts with images generally outperform those without.

Graphics. Well-designed graphics present information in eye-catching ways — facts and figures, captions and quotes all work well. Graphics take more time to produce than a photo, but done well they communicate complex information with ease.

Video. Video posts are highly effective across all platforms. Gone are the days when video was difficult to produce and limited to YouTube or Vimeo — almost every platform now supports video in one form or another.

Social Media Copywriting

Writing well for social media means understanding several things at once: your aims and objectives, the product or service you're promoting, your audience, and each platform's constraints and best practices. I work hard to hit all of these every time I write a post.

I can also provide training and support to help you write confidently for social media yourself — or, if you'd prefer, I'm happy to manage your accounts directly on your behalf.

Content Planning

Social media success doesn't happen by accident — a content strategy is vital. A good plan ensures the right content is produced on time and published in the right places. It doesn't need to be complicated, but a few things are essential:

  • Declare your aims for each platform you use.
  • Define your topics.
  • Discover the optimum posting times and frequency.
  • Decide who's creating the content.
  • Determine how the content will be shared.

Scheduling

There are plenty of dedicated scheduling tools available, such as Hootsuite. For many smaller organisations, though, they add more complexity than value. My general recommendation is to post directly and use each platform's native scheduling tools — LinkedIn, X, Instagram and Facebook all offer scheduling without the need for anything extra.

Analytics & Reporting

Once you're posting regularly, you'll want to monitor performance — whether that's simply tracking follower numbers or digging into likes, shares and comments. Most platforms provide this information, though you may have to hunt for it. I can help you find the numbers that matter and use them to refine your strategy over time.

Common questions

Good to know.

Which platforms should I be on?

Only the ones your customers actually use. For most local businesses that's one or two done well, not five done badly.

Will it still sound like me?

Yes — I write in your voice, and we agree the tone up front so it never feels like a faceless brand account.

Do I have to be in the photos?

It helps, but no. We can work with what you've got and build a simple system for capturing content as you go.

Ready for a website that works as hard as you do?

Drop me a line and you’ll get a friendly, jargon-free reply from me — usually the same day.
